Overview

Ever Brighter Therapy (“we”, “me”, “my”) is a couples therapy practice owned and operated by Myriam Harris, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), serving clients in Guelph, Ontario and online across the province. This policy explains what information is and is not collected when you visit everbrightertherapy.com (the “Website”), and how information is handled when you book through our online scheduling provider.

Your privacy matters, particularly given the personal nature of therapy. This Website is designed to collect as little information as possible.

Information we do not collect through this Website

  • The Website has no contact forms, sign-up forms, comment sections, client accounts or payment features.
  • We do not ask you to enter your name, email address, phone number, or any health or personal information on this Website.
  • We do not use advertising trackers or marketing/remarketing tools, and we do not sell or share your information for advertising purposes.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, the servers that deliver this Website may automatically record technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested, and the date and time of the request. This information is used only to keep the Website secure and working properly. It is not used to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with any other information.

We also use Google Analytics (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use this Website, such as which pages are viewed and how long visitors stay. Google Analytics collects information such as your IP address (which Google may use in aggregated or anonymized form), device and browser type, and pages visited, using cookies and similar technologies. This information is used only in aggregate to improve the Website and is not used to identify you personally. Google's use of this information is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by adjusting your browser's cookie and privacy settings.

We also use Microsoft Clarity, a behavioural analytics tool, to help us understand how visitors interact with the Website, such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse movement, and to generate anonymized heatmaps and session recordings. Clarity uses cookies to collect this information and may record page content you view, but this Website has no forms or input fields through which you would enter personal or health information. Microsoft's use of this information is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

The Website is hosted by Vercel Inc. and uses fonts served by Google Fonts. When your browser loads the Website, it makes requests to these providers, and they may receive your IP address and basic browser information as a result. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy policies.

Booking through Jane App

Appointments are booked through Jane App, a third-party online scheduling and practice management platform. When you select a booking link on this Website, you will be taken to Jane App’s site, which is separate from this Website.

  • Any information you enter in Jane App, such as your name, contact details, appointment preferences, and any health-related information, is collected and stored by Jane App on our behalf so that we can schedule and provide therapy services.
  • Jane App’s collection and use of your information is also governed by Jane App’s own terms and privacy policy, which we encourage you to read before booking.
  • We do not receive or store your booking information on this Website.

Once you become a client, your personal health information is collected, used, stored and disclosed in accordance with Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA), the standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), and any consent and confidentiality agreements you sign with us. Details about how your clinical records are handled are provided during intake.

Contacting us by email or phone

If you reach out by email, phone, or voicemail, we will receive the contact information you choose to share and will use it only to respond to you. Email and voicemail are not secure or confidential methods of communication. Please do not include personal, health or clinical details in emails or voicemails, and instead share those details in session or through the secure booking system.

Cookies

This Website uses cookies set by Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the Website, as described above. Third-party services you may visit from this Website, such as Jane App, Facebook, or Psychology Today, may also use their own cookies or similar technologies. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; doing so may limit some site functionality but will not prevent you from browsing or booking a consultation.

Links to other websites

This Website links to third-party sites, including Jane App, LinkedIn, and Psychology Today, and displays logos of professional associations. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of these sites, and we encourage you to review their policies when you visit them.

How we use and share information

We use information only for the purposes for which it was provided: responding to your inquiries, scheduling appointments, and providing therapy services. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We share personal information only with service providers who help us operate the practice (such as Jane App), with your consent, or where disclosure is required or permitted by law, for example where there is a risk of serious harm, a report about a child in need of protection, or a valid legal order.

Your rights

Under Ontario and Canadian privacy law, you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request access to it, to ask for corrections, and to withdraw consent, subject to legal and professional obligations. To make a request, or if you have a question or concern about how your information is handled, contact us using the details below. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect the information under our control, including using a secure (HTTPS) connection for this Website and a reputable, secure booking platform. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Clinical records are retained for the period required by CRPO and applicable law, and then securely destroyed.

Children’s privacy

This Website is intended for adults seeking couples therapy and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this Website.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features to the Website. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised, and the current version will always be available on this page.
